Let’s say it has been awhile since you have logged into any of your credit profiles. You are going through your profile and at the section where the personal information is you notice a name that is not yours. Maybe a letter is misplaced or the whole name is incorrectly spelt, Either way it is time to take action and have the names not associated with your Social or Birth Certificate removed.
The first step is to file a dispute with each bureau that has any incorrect name listing. The process differs from bureau to bureau, but you can go online for each bureau and file a dispute to have the name deleted. You can also send a dispute letter for this if you are note able to file a dispute online. You can also call them directly.

TransUnion you can dispute by calling toll-free to (800)-916-8800. You should have a copy of your TU credit report before calling this telephone number as your credit report will contain a File Identification Number (FIN) that you will need.
Equifax will require you to visit their site and create an account with them before you can dispute any incorrect name on your report.
